For 130 years, the Government of Canada systematically removed Indigenous children from their homes to strip them of their culture, language, and identity. Yet according to Murray Sinclair in this mini-doc, they did not succeed in assimilating Indigenous people into Canadian society. The journey of healing will be a long one, but it is with the strength and resiliency of the Survivors and their families that we will reconcile our past.
Survivors of the residential school system have shared their experiences and the difficult journeys they have faced on the road to healing. The road to reconciliation is long and ongoing, and it begins with the acknowledging of the truths and experiences of the Survivors and their loved ones.
On February 24th 2012, the TRC hosted an event to present the TRC's Interim Report in person and via live web-streaming. At the half-way point of the TRC's mandate, the event offered a space for questions to be directed at the TRC's c Commissioners, as well as the unveiling of the book entitled "They Came for the Children".

The International Centre for Transitional Justice and Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Youth Retreat was held in Vancouver BC to offer youth the opportunity to learn about the history and legacy of the Indian Residential School system. The retreat was lead by individuals such as TRC Commissioner Mary Wilson, and Survivor and TRC Survivor Committee member Barney Williams Jr.
