Biographical history

Crowstand Indian Residential School (IRS) was located on the Cote Reserve 45 miles northeast of Yorkton in the district of Assiniboia nearby the Manitoba border. It operated from 1889 - 1915 (27 years) under Presbyterian Church administration.

Other names identifying the residential school include Crowstand Boarding School (1889 - 1915), Crowstand Mission School (1893 - 1911); Crow Stand Presbyterian Boarding School (1895); and Crowstand Indian Boarding School (1900 - 1915).

The Government of Canada was responsible for funding, which was managed and operated by the Presbyterian Church of Canada Foreign Mission Committee (1890 - 1912) and the Board of Home Missions (1912 - 1915).
