Expression of Reconciliation from the Canadian Catholic Aboriginal Council

An expression of reconciliation from the Canadian Catholic Aboriginal Council (CCAC) made during the Saskatchewan National Event in June 2012. Submission includes the following items:

  • A painting titled "The Baptism of Christ by John the Baptist" by Kwakiutl artist Tony Hunt (BB-0114-001)

  • Tony Hunt's statement was made on behalf of the Canadian Catholic Aboriginal Council (BB-0114-002)

  • Copy of the statement from the Canadian Catholic Aboriginal Council read at the event (BB-0114-003)

  • Her statement was made on behalf of the Canadian Catholic Aboriginal council (BB-0114-004).

Gary Merasty Speech

Bentwood Box submission includes a copy of speech made by Gary Merasty that was Tabled in the House of Commons on May 1, 2007 requesting the house to apologize for the wrongs committed against Indigenous people. Merasty presented the speech on his own behalf and that of his family.

Truth and Reconciliation: It Matters to Presbyterians

A DVD produced by the Presbyterian Church in Canada titled "Truth and Reconciliation: It Matters to Presbyterians." Video features Presbyterians explaining why reconciliation matters and the ways they are supporting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Moccasins

A pair of moccasins from the Northwest Territories that were submitted to the Bentwood Box during the Saskatchewan National Event by Northwest Territories minister Jackson Lafferty. According to Lafferty, the moccasins symbolize Indigenous resiliency to assimilation.
