Parte de Expressions of Reconciliation
A copy of the Expression of Reconciliation presented at the Alberta National Event and placed in the Bentwood Box. Two typed pages. The Government of Alberta submitted a Reconciliation Document which committed the province to ensuring that all Alberta students will learn about the history and legacy of residential schools along with the history of the First Peoples of Canada. The enhanced mandatory curriculum for provincial K-12 students will include material on residential schools and treaties, and the diverse perspectives of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit peoples living in Alberta in relation to historical and contemporary contexts; concomitant Alberta teacher professional development will include teaching them about residential schools and Aboriginal history to equip them better to meet the needs of their First Nation, Métis and Inuit students. Within the Department of Education there will be a new Assistant Deputy Minister position responsible for Aboriginal Education; and the government also committed to work with First Nation, Métis and Inuit groups to promote reconciliation and provide opportunities for Albertans to hear the stories of residential schools first hand. The province also presented the TRC with a cheque for $250,000 to support the Alberta National Event. Stated Reason for Contribution: Given as a Bentwood Box contribution along with the RCMP's expression of reconciliation and apology for RCMP's participation in residential schools. (BB-0220-001)
